ܘܐܙܠ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܠܫܟܝܡ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܫܟܝܡ ܐܙܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܡܩܡܘܬܗ ܡܠܟܐ

Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ
ywrbem shme dkd whw'
When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

ܘܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܬܘ ܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܪܗ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ

They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

ܐܒܘܟ ܐܣܓܝ ܫܘܥܒܕܢ ܘܐܢܬ ܗܫܐ ܐܩܠ ܡܢ ܫܘܥܒܕܗ ܕܐܒܘܟ ܩܫܝܐ ܘܡܢ ܡܪܘܬܗ ܥܫܝܢܬܐ ܘܢܦܠܚܟ
wnplkhk eshynth' mrwthh wmn qshy' d'bwk shwebdh mn 'ql hsh' w'nth shwebdn 'sgy 'bwk
“Your father made our yoke grievous. Now therefore make the grievous service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܙܠܘ ܘܡܟܐ ܠܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ ܬܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܐܬܘ ܥܡܐ ܠܘܬܗ

He said to them, “Come again to me after three days.” So the people departed.

ܘܐܬܡܠܟ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܩܫܝ̈ܫܐ ܕܦܠܚ̇ܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܟܕ ܚܝ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܡ̇ܠܟܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܢܗܦܟ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ

King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me about how to answer these people?”

ܘܡܠܠܘ ܥܡܗ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܛܒ̈ܬܐ ܬܥܢܐ ܠܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܬܚܕܐ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܐܦܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܬܡܠܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܛܒ̈ܬܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܠܟ ܥܒ̣̈ܕܐ ܛܒ̈ܐ ܘܦܠܚ̈ܐ ܟܘܠ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܚܝ̈ܝܟ
dkhyyk ywmth' kwl wplkh' Tb' ebd' lk nhwwn Tbth' ml' emhwn wthmll 'pyhwn lwqbl wthkhd' hn' lem' then' dTbth' hw 'n lh w'mryn emh wmllw
They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

ܘܫܒܩ ܡܠܟ̣ܐ ܕܩܫ̈ܝܫܐ ܕܡܠܟܘܗܝ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܬܡܠܟ ܒܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܕܪܒܘ ܥܡܗ ܘܩ̇ܝܡܝܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ
qdmwhy wqymyn emh drbw bTly' 'thmlk w'zl dmlkwhy dqshysh' mlk' wshbq
But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܡ̇ܠܟܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܢܗܦܟ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܡܠܠܘ ܥܡܝ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܝ ܕܐܩܠ ܡܢܢ ܫܘܥܒܕܐ ܕܫܥܒܕܢ ܐܒܘܟ ܘܢܦܠܚܟ
wnplkhk 'bwk dshebdn shwebd' mnn d'ql ly w'mryn emy dmllw hn' lem' pthgm' dnhpk 'nthwn mlkyn mn' lhwn w'mr
He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may give an answer to these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”

ܘܡܠܠܘ ܥܡܗ ܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܕܪܒܘ ܥܡܗ ܒܫܘ̈ܩܐ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܬܐܡܪ ܠܥܡܐ ܕܡܠܠܘ ܥܡܟ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܟ ܕܐܒܘܟ ܐܥܫܢ ܫܘܥܒܕܢ ܘܐܢܬ ܐܩܠ ܡܢ ܫܘܥܒܕܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܬܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܚܨܪܝ ܥܒܝܐ ܗܝ ܡܢ ܟܪܬܗ ܕܐܒܝ

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

ܘܐܦ ܗܫܐ ܐܒܝ ܫܥܒܕܟܘܢ ܫܘܥܒܕܐ ܩܫܝܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܡܘܣܦܢܐ ܥܠ ܫܘܥܒܕܟܘܢ ܐܒܝ ܪܕܟܘܢ ܒܫܘ̈ܛܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܪܕ̇ܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܡܪ̈ܓܢܐ
bmrgn' lkwn 'n' rd' w'n' bshwT' rdkwn 'by shwebdkwn el mwspn' w'n' qshy' shwebd' shebdkwn 'by hsh' w'p
Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”

ܘܐܬܐ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܘܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܠܬܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܫܐܠ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܙܒܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܬܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܠܬܐ
dthlth' bywm' lwthy dthw lhwn w'mr zbn' mnhwn dsh'l 'ykn' dthlth' bywm' em' wklh ywrbem w'th'
So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”

ܘܥܢܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܩܫܝ̈ܬܐ ܘܫܒܩ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܡܠܟ̣ܐ ܕܩܫܝ̈ܫܐ ܕܡܠܟܘܗܝ
dmlkwhy dqshysh' mlk' rkhbem mlk' wshbq qshyth' ml' mlk' 'nwn wen'
The king answered them roughly; and King Rehoboam abandoned the counsel of the old men,

ܘܡܠܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܒܝ ܐܣܓܝ ܫܘܥܒܕܟܘܢ ܘܐܢܐ ܡܘܣܦ ܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܫܘܥܒܕܟܘܢ ܐܒܝ ܪܕܟܘܢ ܒܫܘ̈ܛܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܪܕ̇ܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܡܪ̈ܓܢܐ
bmrgn' lkwn 'n' rd' w'n' bshwT' rdkwn 'by shwebdkwn el 'n' mwsp w'n' shwebdkwn 'sgy 'by lhwn w'mr dTly' ml' 'yk emhwn wmll
and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

ܘܠܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܥܡܐ ܡܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܗܘܬ ܗܦܝܟܬܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܬܫܪ ܡܠܬܗ ܕܐܚܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܡܢ ܫܝܠܘ ܥܠ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ
nbT br ywrbem el shylw dmn nby' d'khy' mlthh dthshr mry' qdm mn hpykth' dhwth mTl mlk' mn em' shmew wl'
So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about by God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

ܘܚܙܘ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܠܐ ܫܡ̇ܥ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܬܝܒܘܗܝ ܥܡܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܘܐ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܠܝܬ ܠܢ ܡܢܬܐ ܒܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܦ ܠܐ ܝܪܬܘܬܐ ܒܒܪܗ ܕܐܝܫܝ ܐܢܫ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܙܠܘ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܟܝܠ ܚܙܝ ܒܝܬܟ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܒܬܝ̈ܗܘܢ

When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.

ܘܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܝܬ̇ܒܝܢ ܒܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܐܡܠܟܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܠܪܚܒܥܡ
lrkhbem elyhwn 'mlkw dyhwd' bqwry' dythbyn 'ysryl wbny
But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

ܘܫܕܪ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܠܐܕܘܢܝܪܡ ܕܫܠܝܛ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܡܣܩ̈ܝ ܡܕܐܬܐ ܘܪܓܡܘܗܝ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܟ̈ܐܦܐ ܘܡܝܬ ܘܡܠܟܐ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܣܠܩ ܘܝܬܒ ܠܗ ܒܙܘܓܐ ܠܡܥܪܩ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ

Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

ܘܡܪܕܘ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܥܠ ܒܝܬܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܢܐ

So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.

ܘܐܬܐ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܟܢܫ ܠܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܠܫܒܛܐ ܕܒܢܝܡܝܢ ܡܐܐ ܘܬܡܢܐܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܫ̇ܡ̈ܛܝ ܣܝܦܐ ܘܥ̇ܒ̈ܕܝ ܩܪܒܐ ܠܡܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܡܗܦܟܘ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܠܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܪܗ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ

ܐܡܪ ܠܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܪܗ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܥܠ ܒܝܬ ܒܢܝܡܝܢ ܘܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܥܠ ܫܪܟܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ

ܘܒܢܐ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܠܫܟܝܡ ܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܫܒܛܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܝܬܒ ܒܗ̇ ܘܢܦܩ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܘܒܢܐ ܠܦܢܘܐܝܠ

ܐܢܗܘ ܕܣ̇ܠܩܝܢ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܕܒܚ̈ܐ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܗ̇ܦܟ ܠܒܗ ܕܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܠܘܬ ܡܪܗܘܢ ܘܩ̇ܛܠܝܢ ܠܝ ܘܡܗܦܟܝܢ ܠܗ̇ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܠܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ
